Wow, it's been a while since we recorded a podcast - between my being sick and Thanksgiving we took a bit more of a break than we intended. Ed shows up despite battling a cold himself, and Patricia is on hand to give us the skinny on SugoiCon. Our film discussion this episode is Wilson Yip's IP MAN, starring Donnie Yen and featuring fight choreography from Sammo Hung. Show Notes: |

10101010...it's our special Binary Day episode! It was also 42 day, given that 101010 is binary for '42'. No Vogon constructor fleets showed up, however...which is fortunate for all of us. Patricia demanded discussions about Tony Jaa and Kim Jong-un, and we delivered. There was brief mention of the 2010 Yellow Menace World Tour (actually, our SugoiCon panel discussion, 'Unraveling the Ghost in the Shell Universe'), and this week's movie review: The Yakuza (1975), starring Robert Mitchum and Takakura Ken, and directed by Sidney Pollack. (Note: This is not the actual trailer...the real one is nowhere to be found on YouTube appparently, but this is pretty awesome nonetheless...) The Yakuza Trailer from Jonathan Levy on Vimeo. A week late, but here's our report from the Cincinnati Comic Expo. Not so much a report, actually, as an impromptu podcast recording with the Yellow Menace staff hunkered around a tabletop mic at a lonely end of the Cintas Center, at Xavier University. Two apologies - the audio levels are a little weird, so sorry if some of the staff are a little hard to hear, and the discussion cuts off a little abruptly owing to a technical issue. There was a little talk going on about the Ring films, but it was only about five minutes of chatter before we realized there was a problem - so I cut it. Linkage! |

It's a sad week as we remember Satoshi Kon, the anime auteur who passed away last Wednesday at 46 years of age. With five feature films and one television series to his credit, Kon will long be remembered as one of the genre's great innovators. In happier news, we also discuss Yakuza 3 for the Playstation 3 and somehow we all managed to sit through Circle of Iron starring David Carradine and some dude who can't act his way out of a wet paper bag.
